Ojek Online Drivers in Tambora Assault Face 12 Years behind Bars
Marcvila, Jakarta – Personnel from the West
Jakarta Police apprehended six online motorcycle
taxi drivers ( ojek online) who were involved in the
beating of two street kids in Tambora, West Jakarta
on Tuesday, February 13.
“There are two victims with the initials DA and TI.
One of them (DA) died,” said West Jakarta Police chief
Sr. Comr. Hengki Hariyadi on Friday, March 2.
The two street kids sustained injuries to their heads
from the assault. Police investigators seized a stone,
a piece of plywood, and a log that were allegedly
used by the suspects in the incident.
Hengki said the motive behind the incident was a call
for help from a passenger, SA, who told one of the
suspects that he almost fell victim to a crime
committed by a street gang affiliated to the street
kids.
AD then decided to call five of his friends to the crime
scene. At the time the motorcycle taxi drivers arrived
to confront DA and TI, they saw one of the street kids
(TI) was already armed with a knife. AD and his
friends immediately reacted by holding him down
and beat him.
Hengki said the ojek online drivers would be charged
with Article 170 (2) of the Criminal Code (KUHP), with
possible punishment of nine and twelve years behind
bars.
